Mounting Pads for Array Accelerometers

Structures used in industry are subjected to much vibration stimulus. This stimulus causes the structures to vibrate. Often, the vibration induces structural vibration resonance. If the resonance vibration is sustained for long periods of time material fatique can result. The fatique may cause premature failure of the excited structure components. Failures may manifest themselves as cracks, weakened structures or catastrophic breakage. Modal Array Accelerometers are used to study structural vibrations. Moderate sized to very large structures such as bridges, buildings, storage tanks, ship hulls, aircraft bodies, automobiles, train cars, buses, trucks, highway supports and others normally do not have high G excitation. But they are subjected to lower frequency excitation lasting for very long periods of time.

The extended time will accumulate stress (fatique) cycles approaching the structures S/N curve limits resulting in a material failure. Very accurate, long term stability, environmentally compatible, traceable sensor calibration, ease of service and ease of repair are all required for governing agency documentation of test results.

Accelerometers used for structural testing must have high out sensitivity, frequency response up to 1000 Hz, Low frequency response approaching DC, and be phase matched to within a few degrees. PCB offers the 333B series accelerometers for these demanding requirements.

Now one needs to adequately mount the Modal Array Accelerometers to the structure and easily connect the sensors to data acquisition and analysis systems. Mounting Pads for Array Accelerometers deliver easily installed mounting pads, along with the supporting interconnecting cables.

Specially designed mounting pads are for use with array accelerometers that incorporate their electrical connection within their mounting surface.
