September 26-27, 2023 | Los Angeles, CA

PRESENTED BY: Dr. Pete Avitabile
LOCATION: Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles | 4427 W El Segundo Blvd, Hawthorne, CA 90250

PCB Piezotronics and The Modal Shop invite you to attend a hands-on training seminar focusing on the fundamentals of modal testing.

What will I learn?

  • Impact and shaker basics for modal testing
  • Different sensing technologies, calibration methodologies, and calibration considerations
  • The distinction between high-pass and low-pass filtering, as well as the differentiation between filters implemented in sensors versus those integrated into data acquisition systems (DAQs)
  • Overview of the modal process
  • Discover useful information about the modal hammer, including tips for its effective usage, considerations for force/exponential window selection, the importance of coherence, techniques for double impact testing while avoiding overload or saturation, and the distinctions between multiple impacts with a roving or stationary hammer
  • Familiarize yourself with the fundamentals of Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems, including concepts such as Frequency Response Functions (FRFs) and Multiple Coherence
  • How implications of conducting modal tests can be affected by measurement inconsistencies resulting from poor testing practices
  • Learn how considering frequency range in measurements, factors such as multi-bands, skewed inputs, and the challenges of capturing low frequencies with Integrated Circuit Piezoelectric (ICP) sensors should be taken into account
  • Explore various types of stingers commonly used in testing, including their effects on the test setup, the significance of impedance heads, and considerations for the general shaker configuration
  • The live demonstration will encompass several components, conducting measurements using a hammer, exploring MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) techniques, showcasing examples of shaker measurements, and various other aspects

Who is it for?

  • Designers, engineers, and system integrators
  • Test personnel and their managers
  • Design and analysis staff who are involved in the design, manufacturing, procurement and use of test equipment, data acquisition systems and instrumentation
