PCB Piezotronics, Inc. introduces a ‘CA’ thermal coating option, for ICP® Series 102B dynamic pressure sensors. The ‘CA’ option acts as an ablative protection from high flash temperatures such as experienced during explosions, blasts or thermal transient events. The coating is applied to the front diaphragm of rugged, ICP® piezoelectric pressure sensors that are structured with acceleration-compensated quartz sensing elements and are used for detecting rapid pressure transients. ICP® pressure sensors with the ‘CA’ option are ideal for measurements where thermal shock occurs immediately following the dynamic pressure, since the thermal coating delays the thermal shock from reaching the sensor. The ‘CA’ thermal coating eliminates the need to be replaced on every test which saves time and money. The coating also allows for flush mounting, thus avoiding a recessed, grease filled passage such as required with front-sealing types of pressure sensors, which makes it is ideal for air blast measurements and closed combustion chamber testing, since it provides for maximum rise time and frequency response. Pressure sensors with ICP® output feature on-board electronics that provide a low-noise conditioned output signal and ease of use, with the ability to transmit noise-free signals over long cable runs. PCB® Series 102B sensors are available with full-scale measurement ranges from 50 to 10,000k psi (345 to 69,000 kPa), sensitivity from 0.5 to 100 mV/psi (0.07 to 14.5 mV/kPa), and feature solid-state construction, no moving parts, < 1 micro-second rise time, high frequency response, and ground isolation.
