Manufacturing Engineer II—Components & Services

Job Summary:

 

Utilizes education, experience and technical knowledge to provide support and training with regard to new product assembly methods, tests, procedures, etc.  Works closely with production technicians, product design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and management to understand and improve manufacturing processes and new product designs.  Works with production to resolve issues and implement irreversible corrective actions before new product launch.  Requires training on PCB products and technology. Significant interaction with Sales, Manufacturing Technicians, and other Engineers is required.

Qualifications:

 

Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering and field experience. Experience working in manufacturing environment, high volume manufacturing experience a plus.  Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.  Basic computer skills, Microsoft Office software, 3-d modeling software, LEAN, Design of Experiments, Shainin techniques, error proofing.

Roles and Responsibilities:

     Promotes teamwork, cooperation and commitment to “Total Customer Satisfaction” among team members.

 Works with other engineers and technicians to learn basic sensor technology, manufacturing processes, test methods, departmental procedures and policies.  Share “lessons learned” from experiences, and collaborate on improving design and/or processes of existing PCB products. 

  1. Early involvement in new product development concepts to assure new designs will be manufacturable at the projected volumes.
  2. Work with design engineering and production technicians to assure new products work with existing manufacturing processes.
  3. Address manufacturing issues encountered during prototype phase, and implement effective “Preventative Actions” that will not allow for reoccurrence.
  4. Work with design and manufacturing engineering to develop new manufacturing processes.
  5. Works with other engineers and technicians to provide support and training with regard to new product assembly methods, test procedures, ISO 9001 documentation, production equipment, company policies/procedures, etc.
  6. Utilizes PCB’s 3-d modeling software to develop fixtures to control and error proof assembly process and minimize variation. 
  7. Document manufacturing process using detailed procedures, routers, and Bill of Materials to control and error proof the process and minimize variation.
  8. Works with design engineers and production technicians to coordinate the timely transfer of new products to production. 
  9. Document and discuss “lessons learned” from new product development to implement improvements on existing manufacturing processes.
  10. Learns how to lead and drive continuous improvement projects based on “lessons learned to address quality or cost related manufacturing issues on existing products.
  11. Works hard with Manufacturing personnel to promote LEAN and reduce waste in system.
  12. Utilizes test equipment to test products and maintains a working knowledge of applicable calibration methods.
  13. Full functional knowledge of how to determine special cause failures vs. common cause failures in order to establish project direction.
  14. Learns to protect the customer by categorizing measurement system failures (Type I vs. Type II).
  15. Learns to prioritize issues by the Pareto principle in order to work on the most important issues first.
  16. Functional knowledge of statistical process control techniques and error proofing hierarchy to implement irreversible Corrective Actions, and Preventative Actions.
  17. Uses data for decision making, understands “capability”.
  18. Researches, analyzes and studies existing products, systems, subsystems, test equipment and processes to improve performance, reliability, quality and cost of new products.
  19. Works with engineers and production technicians to improve yield, reduce scrap, and solve other problems encountered during the new product development process.
  20. Learns how to build, test, and calibrate products.  Gains experience with test equipment and processes.
  21. Working knowledge and fully developed relationship with other functions in area of responsibility in order to optimize cross-functional communication.
  22. Full functional knowledge of PCB’s ECO (Engineering Change Order) and New Product Launch processes.
  23. Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operation of the Engineering     Department and PCB as a whole.
