Basic Functions:
Assigned to one of the following functions and may perform specific duties as outlined below.
- Automatics:
- EDM:
- Tool Room
- Mold Room
Reads and interprets blueprints. Uses measuring instruments to inspect parts and may follow Q.C. sampling plan depending on function. Makes tool offsets. Completes all required paperwork and makes data collection transactions as needed. Verifies conformance of finished work to ensure compliance to tolerance and company specifications. Performs advanced troubleshooting. Identifies all common problems and makes changes to correct. Makes recommendations for process improvements. Trains co-workers. Identifies dull or worn inserts or tools and changes as necessary. Understands order of operations. Sets up and edits programs jobs without assistance. Cycles and jogs machine through all functions. Completes machinist level preventative maintenance as required. May assist Supervision in leading others in the completion of tasks. (See Shift Lead Person responsibilities below). Achieves top-level quality. Distribute work assignments as required. Maintains neat and orderly work areas (5S). Performs other related duties as assigned.
Machinist II, III assumes more supervision/management, production direction and/or training roles within the production environment.
Education/Training: High School graduate or equivalent; BOCES Machine Shop or equivalent skilled trades school. Shop math skills and blue print reading skills. Basic troubleshooting skills.
